This paper investigates least-cost QoS multicast routing problem in IP/DWDM optical networks, and proposes an improved evolutionary algorithm (AEQEA). Based on quantum-inspired evolutionary algorithm (QEA) with quantum rotation gate strategy, AEQEA introduces adaptive evolution mechanism (AEM), which allows each chromosome in a population to update itself to a fitter position according to its own situation. In term of this mechanism, AEQEA can significantly improve its capability of exploration and exploitation, since every chromosome is able to be allocated with suitable evolutionary parameters before each update. A repair method is applied to eliminate illegal graphs as many as possible hence more excellent solutions will appear in each evolutionary generation. Simulations are carried out over a number of network topologies. And the results show that, for the QoS multicasting problem, AEQEA outperforms other existing heuristic algorithms and is characterized by robustness, high success ratio, fast convergence and excellent capability on global searching. 2009 Elsevier B.V. QoS Multicast Routing and Wavelength Assignment in IP/DWDM Optical Internet by Bio-inspired Algorithms

In this paper, two bio-inspired Quality of Service (QoS) multicast algorithms are proposed in IP over dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical Internet. Given a QoS multicast request and the delay interval required by the application, both algorithms are able to find a flexible QoS-based cost suboptimal routing tree. They first construct the multicast trees based on ant colony opti...

A Novel Fuzzy Logic Base Scheduling Mechanism for Service Differentiation in IP Networks

Quality of Service (QoS) refers to a set of rules or techniques that help the network administrators use the available network resources optimally to manage the effects of congestion and to treat the applications according to their needs. The differentiated services architecture (DiffServ) allows providing quality of service to users. The major DiffServ premise is that individual flows with sim...

A Di erentiated Optical Services Model for WDM Networks

This article addresses the issues of scalable end-to-end QoS in Metropolitan DWDM networks serving as transit networks for IP access networks. DWDM o ering few wavelengths have in the past been deployed in backbone networks to upgrade point-to-point transmission where sharing is based on coarse granularity. This type of DWDM backbone networks o ering few lightpaths, provides no support for QoS ...
